The times ahead in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with who becomes the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 elections.
Whiles the candidate has the sole prerogative to decide on whom to partner with, the Vice President is being intimidated by certain forces within the party.

The candidate has who he thinks would help him to win the 2024 election but President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his family members think differently.

They are of the position that they cannot control the person that Dr, Bawumia is comfortable and feel that the person they have should rather be imposed on the candidate.

History within the NPP has it that in 2008, the party top echelons were not in support of the person that candidate Nana Akufo-Addo settled but he insisted on going into the election with Dr. Bawumia.

After losing both 2008 and 2012 elections, there were pressure on candidate Akufo-Addo to drop Dr. Bawumia going into the 2016 elections but he resisted the party and those who were pushing for that agenda.

Today, the narratives are becoming different as Dr. Bawumia who is the candidate is not being allowed to be his own man and is being forced to tow the line of President Akufo-Addo and his family as against his own wish.

The posture of President Akufo-Addo and his close family members is likely to spark a row in the NPP soon because some of the party gurus are getting agitated.

The fears of those party gurus who are agitated are that Dr. Bawumia would be seen as someone who would be controlled by Akufo-Addo and his relatives.

In the minds of those gurus, once Akufo-Addo resisted them in his choice of a running, Dr. Bawumia should not be stampeded in his choice but must be allowed to go in for who he is comfortable with.

Again, the gurus are of the position that the posture of Akufo-Addo and his family is delaying the candidate from announcing his running mate as the party is not definite on the date.
