Rabat – The Moroccan U-20 national football team has won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, an outstanding achievement that confirms the momentum of national football driven by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This success is the result of years of in-depth work, particularly through the creation of the Mohammed VI Football Academy, a benchmark institution in Africa. Several key players in this victorious squad, such as Yassir Zabir, Othmane Kountoune, and Yassine Khalifi, are graduates of this academy.
Inaugurated in 2009 and further strengthened in 2013, the Academy embodies the national strategy for sport: identifying, training, supporting, and developing young talents from an early age. It is part of a broader initiative aimed at modernizing sports infrastructure and promoting access to sports across the entire country.
The U20 Lions’ title follows the impressive performance of the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and reaffirms Morocco’s rising status on the global football stage.
This trophy therefore celebrates a holistic approach to sport—combining local development, professional training, and international ambition—under the direct leadership and vision of His Majesty the King.
