A former Member of Parliament for the Subin Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Eugene Boakye-Antwi, comes as someone who frees his mind on political issues within his own New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He is gunning for the General Secretary position of the party and his past utterances on some television stations are going against him, making his ambition shaky.
His sins include making statements about the party’s Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and other party bigwigs that have generated discourses among potential delegates for the next National Executives election.
Mr. Antwi, who was a Deputy Minister of Works and Housing under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, in a video widely circulating, claimed that the selection of Dr. Bawumia for the 2024 election was not carefully thought through.
The video, which was an excerpt from an interview Mr. Antwi had with Oyerepa FM in Kumasi, alluded to the fact that Dr. Bawumia’s religious background had a serious effect on the voting pattern for the NPP.
NPP insiders are saying that the past utterances of Mr. Antwi were an indication that his vision does not align with that of the Presidential candidate, which would have far-reaching ramifications on the party.
The party insiders are saying that the utterances could not be reversed and would have an impact on Mr. Antwi because lots of party people were not happy with his position.
During the presidential primaries that saw Dr. Bawumia winning, delegates took into consideration the past utterances of some of the contestants and punished them accordingly.
The battle for the General Secretary position is expected to be a fierce one as more names are popping up over time.
Apart from the video of Mr. Antwi that is presently circulating, the utterances of other persons interested in becoming the Chief Executive Officer of the NPP will come up with time.
