National Service Scandal: Osei Assibey Antwi Caught in Lies

It is emerging that former National Service Authority (NSA) Executive Director, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi who is being investigated by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), struggled with different stories to implicate his subordinates during his interrogation in connection with the ongoing probe into the ghost names scandal.

Sources indicate that Mr. Osei Assibey appeared before the NIB on Thursday, March 20, accompanied by his lawyer after an invitation was extended to him to appear before the investigative body.
He was reportedly subjected to several hours of questioning regarding the scandal, which involves the fraudulent enlistment of non-existent personnel onto the NSA payroll and sources say that he was inconsistent as he fumbled in his attempts to blame people who worked under him.

According to the sources familiar with his interrogation, the former NSA boss was jittery throughout the interrogation as he tried to point fingers at people who worked with instructions from him.

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice in a media encounter on March 24, 2025, said that there was evidence that in November 2024, the Executive Director and others paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to kill the story in the media and defend them.

The NIB launched its investigations following an exposé by The Fourth Estate, which uncovered widespread irregularities within the scheme.

As part of the probe, two former Deputy Directors of the NSA, Gifty Oware Mensah and Kwaku Ohene Djan, were earlier invited and questioned over their roles in the alleged fraud.
