Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid is a seasoned politician, an academic and a philanthropist with a strong background in leadership, public service and public speaking. Born on June 14, 1971, in Tamale, Ghana, he has held various influential positions, showcasing his capabilities as an experienced and an exceptional leader.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid is renowned for his flawless communications and oratory skills, which have been demonstrated in his roles as spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo’s presidential campaigns and Minister for Information.

Again, in terms of his outstanding leadership credentials which has earned him numerous national awards and recognitions including the highest State Award of the Order of the Volta. Others include Chief Executive of the Year, Most Influential Corporate Executive of the Year and many others. He has led various organizations, including the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), where he implemented key policy programs and ensured uninterrupted fuel supply with the introduction of several transformative and innovative initiatives making Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector a model in Africa.

As a respected academic amongst his peers, Dr. Abdul-Hamid holds an MPhil and PhD in Religious Studies from the University of Cape Coast. Showcasing his intellectual prowess in several other disciplines, he earned himself another Masters in Energy Law from the University of Ghana.

He has been a faithful and loyal activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) since his student days, serving as Secretary of the party’s branch at the University of Cape Coast. It is significant to note that Dr. Hamid was the first ever elected National Youth Organiser of a major political party in the Forth Republic. Undoubtedly, Dr. Hamid can be credited as one of the people who inspired national political leadership amongst the youth in our current democratic experiment.

As a typical Zongo boy who grew up in Sakasaka, Tamale, Dr. Hamid spearheaded infrastructure development projects in deprived Inner cities, and Zongo communities as Minister for Inner City and Zongo Development. Additionally, he promoted interfaith understanding by introducing morning prayer services for Christians and designated prayer areas for Muslims around the offices he occupied.

As the party goes in search of a General Secretary, who could steer the affairs of the party during this transitional face in opposition, Dr. Abdul-Hamid’s rich political, public service and leadership experience in policy-making and implementation, would serve the NPP well in developing effective strategies in rebuilding the party and making it battle ready ahead of the next general elections.

Known generally as a unifying figure in the party, his ability to build bridges between different groups, as seen in his promotion of religious tolerance, could help unite the party.

Overall, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid’s impressive track record, leadership experience, and exceptional communication skills make him a strong contender for the position of General Secretary of the NPP and the best to lead the party to victory in 2028.
