Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, has openly criticized Alan Kyerematen over his recent remarks targeting former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
During her appearance on Election Field on Oyerepa TV, Ursula expressed disappointment in Alan’s conduct, describing his criticisms as lacking the respect owed to a leader who significantly shaped his political career.
Alan Kyerematen, a former Trade Minister and now an independent presidential candidate, has been vocal in his disapproval of Kufuor, especially after the former president endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the December 7 elections.
Ursula, however, believes his remarks betray a lack of gratitude to someone who played a pivotal role in his rise. “Kufuor didn’t just serve as president; he was entrusted with Ghana’s leadership by its citizens, and he chose capable people to work alongside him,” Ursula said.
“Alan was one of those fortunate enough to serve in prestigious positions under Kufuor’s administration. It’s baffling that he would now turn around to criticize the very person who helped him rise politically.”
Ursula’s critique centered on the importance of gratitude. As one of Ghana’s most celebrated leaders, Kufuor is often remembered for implementing policies that transformed the nation. Ursula reminded Alan that he held key roles, such as Minister for Trade and Industry, under Kufuor’s administration, opportunities that elevated his profile in Ghanaian politics.
“Alan should be the first to show gratitude,” she stressed. “Others could have been chosen, but Kufuor believed in him. That is something Alan should remember before launching unwarranted attacks.”
She also touched on the controversy surrounding Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia, urging Alan to approach such political decisions with respect and maturity. “Endorsements are part of politics,” she remarked.
“You don’t have to agree with them, but you must approach them with decorum. Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia doesn’t erase the contributions Alan made, but it also doesn’t give him the right to tarnish the reputation of a man who has given so much to our country.”
Ursula concluded her comments with a word of caution, emphasizing that today’s actions could have long-term consequences. Without delving into specifics, she advised Alan to reflect on his words and choices. “Alan must be mindful,” she said.
