‘In Mahama’s era students lacked chalk, but are now receiving tablets’ – Bawumia

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has described John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, as a representative of the past for Ghana.

His remarks came as he drew a clear comparison between former President Mahama’s administration and the current NPP government, highlighting what he views as significant progress achieved under NPP leadership.

Addressing a crowd of supporters in the Northern Region on November 21, Dr Bawumia stressed the distinctions between the two administrations, spotlighting the accomplishments of the NPP.

He specifically mentioned the chalk shortages that were common in schools during Mahama’s presidency, contrasting this with the NPP government’s distribution of laptops to students.

He cited this change as a clear sign of progress and a reflection of the NPP’s commitment to modernisation and innovation, particularly in the educational sector.

Dr Bawumia urged voters to see the upcoming 2024 election as a critical decision between stagnation and forward-thinking development, suggesting that the previous administration’s struggles with basic supplies stood in stark contrast to the NPP’s focus on technology and education.

Dr Bawumia outlined the NPP’s clear and ambitious vision for Ghana’s future, one that centres on sustainable growth and technological advancements.

He appealed to the electorate to support a path of innovation and continued development, expressing his belief that the NPP is best positioned to secure a prosperous future for the country.

“This election is about who can deliver the transformation Ghana needs, and I am confident that I am the better choice for the future of our country.”

“In his time, there was no chalk in schools. We are buying tablets for school children. Every child will get one. No one will be left out. We are even buying laptops for teachers. We are buying it for teachers from Kindergarten to SHS.”
