Brussels – The European Union (EU) foreign affairs spokesperson reaffirmed on Friday that “neither the EU nor any of its member states recognizes the SADR.”
This statement came as some separatist relays were over-communicating about the European Union-African Union ministerial meeting, which is taking place this Friday in Rome.
Recalling that the EU-AU ministerial meetings are co-chaired and co-organized by the EU and the AU, the EU Foreign Affairs spokesperson indicated that “the agreed modalities provide that each party is responsible for inviting its own members.”
He therefore attributed the presence of this entity in the EU-AU ministerial meeting to the African Union, thereby denying that the EU had invited the pseudo “SADR” to the said meeting.
“Invitations to African members are sent by the African Union,” he said.
In this context, the spokesperson insisted that “the EU’s position is well known: Neither the EU nor any of its member states recognize the SADR” and that the presence of this entity “at the European Union-African Union ministerial meeting has no influence on this position.”
