Disgruntled workers of the Produce Buying Company (PBC) of Ghana are scheduled for a meeting with the National Labour Commission (PBC) and management of the indigenous cocoa-buying firm on November 25, 2024, to iron out issues of unpaid salaries.
This comes after the workers petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) amidst a series of protests to demand the payment of over 10 months of unpaid salaries and pensions.
In an interview with Citi News, Seth Adusei, the Vice Chairman of the Worker’s Union of PBC, expressed optimism about the meeting bringing finality to their claims.
“We presented our petition to parliament and because they went on recess, we haven’t been able to follow up on the issue. The last time we contacted Eric Opoku, he assured us that when they were back from recess, they will sit on the issue because they have formed a panel to discuss that issue. Unfortunately, there have been some ups and downs in Parliament, so they still haven’t been able to go back.”
“We directed a couple of our issues to CHRAJ and CHRAJ referred the case to the Labour Commission and has worked on the issue and has invited us to meet with management God willing 25th of November for us to sit with them and have a dialogue over the issue as to who needs to do what and who not to do.
“We are still insisting that they pay our treaty, providence funds, and our unpaid salaries. Management has written to us that they want to meet us, so we are still waiting for the scheduled date so that we can meet and have a final discussion on the issue. The Labour Commission has assured us that judgment will be passed over the issue,” he stated.
