The Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, has formally requested round-the-clock security at the Abene Palace to maintain peace and order, following a decisive ruling by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in his favour.
The ruling, which granted an interlocutory injunction, restrains Baffour Akoto Osei from performing any duties or presenting himself in any capacity as Kwahuhene. It also prohibits him from interfering with the authority, functions, and responsibilities of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II as the legitimately enstooled Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area.
The decision, grounded in chieftaincy laws and customary protocols, comes amid heightened tension surrounding the protracted chieftaincy dispute. There are growing concerns that the ruling could spark unrest in the area.
In anticipation of potential conflict, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II has petitioned the National Security for immediate and sustained protection. His legal team, in an official letter, emphasized the urgency of deploying 24-hour security to the palace and its surroundings.
“We respectfully bring to your attention an injunction ruling by the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs restraining the Respondents from interfering with the status, functions, activities, and duties of our client as Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area,” the letter stated.
It further highlighted the need for security to prevent clashes and ensure the peaceful return of the Omanhene to his official residence, adding: “In order to prevent any clashes and to ensure a peaceful return of our client to the Abene Palace to continue his lawful duties, we respectfully request that your office urgently provide 24-hour security at the palace and its environs to maintain peace and prevent any unwarranted disturbances, which may result in undesirable harm to persons.”
According to intelligence gathered by The New Republic, the National Security Ministry has since directed the Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to step up security efforts in the Kwahu area. However, actual deployment details remain unconfirmed at this time, with tensions in the area still simmering.
