Ghana Armed Forces Partners Walk Ghana for Peace 2024 Project

The project has the expressed endorsement of the National Peace Council, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

In every general elections in Ghana, there is always a clarion call by citizens, civil society organizations and the business community for a peaceful election.

This year’s elections is no exception as key stakeholders, particularly the leading political parties and the Electoral Commission (EC) are being reminded of the golden fruits of a peaceful elections in the country.

This is the spirit that has motivated a young Ghanaian woman, Ms Faustina Dambie to join the voices of reasoning through her project: Walk Ghana for Peace, a lone young woman on foot across Ghana to promote peace and national unity before, during and after the 2024 General Elections. The project is under the theme; If we can walk together, we can live together.

Walk Ghana for Peace will see the young lady walking a total of 2,645km, 10 hours a day, on Foot from Accra to all the 16 regional capitals, commencing August 1, 2024 to engage with all presidential candidates of major political parties, the chiefs, the youth and the general public. She will also be engaging the EC, the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice and security chiefs, as well as chief executives of corporate Ghana and other development partners as part of the campaign.

The project has the expressed endorsement of the National Peace Council, the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.

On Thursday, Ms Faustina Dambie, as part of her pre-walk consultations, met with the Director General of Public Relations, of the Ghana Armed Forces Brigadier General Eric Aggrey-Quashie, to brief them officially on the project.

After the briefing, Brig Gen Aggrey-Quashie was excited about the concept and the attempt by the young lady to use her strength for the betterment of mother Ghana. He reiterated the Ghana Armed Forces’ readiness to partner with the Ghana Police Service and all other security agencies to ensure that this project achieves its objectives of a more peaceful and united Ghana after the elections.

Brig Gen Aggrey-Quashie also made useful inputs to enrich the programme and its activities. He also advised Ms Faustina Dambie and her team to focus on the core values the project stands for to ensure all-inclusive participation in this national campaign.  “You must try to ensure your activities follow procedures that guide this type of event to achieve positive impact you desire at the end”, he stressed.

On her part, Ms. Faustina Dambie reaffirms her commitment and readiness to embark on this daring peace journey, scheduled for August 1, 2024, to September 28, 2024. Therefore, she calls on all peace-loving Ghanaians, individuals and corporate Ghana to support her budget to implement this all-important national project.

Also present at the meeting was the project consultant, Mr John Bosco Tieyiri, Mrs. Evelyn Tiwaah Mireku, the national coordinator of the project, Ms Dambie’s special assistant, Sarah Mwenso and Mr, Winson V. A. Addotey, the media manager.
