ABOUT US

Welcome to our World

We welcome you to the world of The Corporate Guardian, the oldest and still the leading international magazine published from Ghana that reports and analyses the economy, finance, business, investment, political economy and socio-economic development issues. Published since 2001, the magazine, which is published and circulated once every two months, has been regarded as a leading source of information and perspectives, essentially reporting on Ghana to the world, and the world to Ghana.

Our magazine is printed in full colour on glossy art paper to ensure excellent colour reproduction and the shelf live durability required of a publication whose every edition serves as a document of record and reference for its local and international readerships.

We also produce a digital version of the magazine which exactly replicates each hard copy edition, editorial content, advertising and page lay outs all inclusive, and which is accessible world wide through the internet. Our website also publishes stories or relevance to our readership as they develop, not just presenting the news itself, but providing analyses and perspectives on their implications for various stakeholder groups.

WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

The Corporate Guardian magazine is published by Black Gold Publications Limited a company domiciled in Ghana and whose activities include publishing, advertising consultancy, corporate/institutional public relations,  reputation enhancement and public image management as well as public policy analyses and advisory.

Apart from its head office located in Accra, the capital of Ghana, the company also maintains active offices in South Africa and in both Lagos and Abuja, the commercial and political capitals respectively of Nigeria.

Black Gold fully owns The Corporate Guardian magazine and is itself owned by Nigerian and Ghanaian investors, all of whom are media professionals and entrepreneurs.

The Corporate Guardian magazine began publishing in 2001 as a quarterly, but has been published once every two months since 2010, in response to the demands of both our readers and our advertisers. Over the past two decades the magazine has achieved and subsequently maintained its stature as the most consistent, most technically accurate periodical publication on the areas we cover.

We also generate an online business news portal, BusinessWeek, which we actually published in hard copy form between 2004 and 2020 before opting to restrict its circulation to online format through the internet following the challenges imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic and the realization that this gives us a much wider market penetration and price competitiveness than the hard copy version did.

THE MAGAZINE

  • Format

The Corporate Guardian magazine is published in full colour on glossy art paper. This both ensures excellent colour reproduction and also ensures shelf life longevity and durability. The magazine is printed A4 size with font sizes that balance the need to include as much content as possible against our desire to ensure that reading the content is not challenging to readers who do not have 20/20 vision.

From cover to cover each edition is between 84 and 120 pages although there have been special, concept driven editions that have been up to  160 pages.

Our print quality is excellent, as can be readily attested to by our readers and our advertisers alike.

  • Editorial philosophy & content

Most importantly the magazine is completely politically non partisan and indeed is independent of any identified vested interest group. Rather the magazine’s editorial content is devoted to the following broad objectives

  • The well being of the Ghanaian economy in a most inclusive manner so that the greatest number of Ghanaians can benefit is a fair manner combining their equitable ownership of the nation’s natural resources their peculiar contributions to the creation of national wealth;
  • The promotion and facilitation of the involvement of the private sector in wealth generation on the basis that private enterprise, because of ownership motivation, is best positioned to allocate production resources in the most optimal, and therefore productive manner.
  • Good governance by government at all levels to ensure that private enterprise is conducted in a fair and responsible manner through prudent regulation, that a fair proportion of the wealth it generates accrues to the state and is used for the delivery of socio-economic infrastructure, as well as public goods and services that, for the well being of the general populace, cannot be left purely to market forces.
  • The best possible political, economic, social and cultural relations between Ghana and the rest of the world, underpinned by a commitment to regionalism and globalism, and good regional and global citizenship.

To this end we focus primarily on the following issues;

  • Macro-economy
  • Political economy
  • Finance
  • Portfolio and direct investment
  • Business
  • Domestic and international trade
  • Entrepreneurship and good corporate governance
  • Bilateral and multilateral economic relations.
  • Socio-economic development issues.

Crucially, our editorial content is not only unbiased, but is also unfailingly technical accurate – even when addressing the most technical challenging of issues – and is presented in language that is easy to understand, with technical issues broken down into concepts that can be readily grasped.

  • READERSHIP

Both our hard copy and our digital editions are read by :

  • Senior government/public sector officials
  • Corporate executives
  • Entrepreneurs
  • Professionals
  • Captains of commerce
  • Direct and portfolio investors
  • The academia
  • The international business and multilateral institutional communities
  • The diplomatic community
  • The development assistance community

CIRCULATION

  1. Hard copy edition

Our hard copy print run is 8,000 copies per edition, of which 5,000 copies are circulated in Ghana while the other three copies are circulated abroad as follows:

Nigeria ;1,000

The rest of English speaking West Africa: 500

South Africa : 500

The United Kingdom: 500

North America: 500

Our most  recent market research survey, conducted in 2021 (only in Ghana) indicates that each edition of the hard copy edition has an average pass along readership ratio of 5: 1. On the reasonable assumption that this ratio also holds for hard copy editions circulated outside Ghana, this implies a total readership of 40,000 for each edition.

While our sheer hard copy circulation numbers guarantee strong market penetration for advertisers, this is intensified much further by the quality of our readership with regards to both their astuteness and even more importantly their financial empowerment.

  1. Digital edition

Our digital edition is accessible world wide. As a strategy for building up readership on a global basis it can still be accessed for free. However from the beginning of 2024 we will begin charging small subscription fees for digital readers. The digital edition is accessed worldwide but particularly in English speaking countries that have economic/business relationships with Ghana, such as the rest of Anglophone Africa, the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries as well as North America. It is also accessed in other countries by English speaking investors corporate executives, entrepreneurs financiers etc. Indeed because of our emphasis on identifying investment opportunities and explaining the investment terrain, the magazine has become a prime source of information, data, analyses and perspectives for the international community seeking top do business with Ghana.

  1. ONLINE NEWS PORTAL

We also run an continuous news portal which is regularly updated on a daily basis to capture unfolding events and trends as they develop. Our portal is differentiated from those of our competitors by our emphasis on news features rather than just news stories which tend to be reproduced with the same content across several online news portals at the same time. Our own online portal content not only presents the latest news but interprets and analyses it in order for the reader to derive practical benefits from the information provided. Thus our stories on the news portal are exclusive to us.

OUR ADVERTISING PROPOSITION

The magazine is a prime medium for advertising particularly for goods and services aimed at the astute, enlightened and financially empowered middle and upper classes. Importantly, because our magazine is closely read by a captive readership of corporate decision makers it is particularly useful for building business to business relationships and for wholesale transactions. At the same time our readership, being comprised of middle and upper class individuals makes us an excellent medium for reaching buyers of goods and services targeting financially empowered households, including luxury goods.

Importantly our strong editorial credibility among our readership is automatically conferred on the propositions declared by our advertisers.

To remain competitive we are refused to give into the temptation to impose premium pricing with regards to our advertising rates. Thus we remain price competitive despite our acknowledged superior editorial content and circulation.

A crucial aspect of our value proposition for regular advertisers  is our ability to interface advertising with editorial content thus providing advertisers with a holistic product/service marketing platform and corporate /institutional reputation enhancement platform. However this is not done at the expense of our editorial integrity.

Indeed we  offer the highest quality advertorials (corporate/institutional statements) available from any media house in Ghana as either an alternative or an addition to regular advertising.

All hard copy adverts are automatically reproduced in our digital edition at no extra cost, thus vastly expanding the readership penetration the advertiser enjoys. Because our hard copy edition is produced on glossy art paper the colour reproduction of all adverts carried in each edition are of the highest quality available in Ghana’s print media.

Separate advert placements are also available on our website at competitive online news portal costs.
