Wontumi FM’s Oheneba Nana Asiedu must be dealt with – Lecturer

A Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Okyere Ankrah has called on the Police to deal decisively with the Morning Show host of Wontumi Radio in Kumasi Oheneba Nana Asiedu.

Oheneba Nana Asiedu was invited by the Police after a video of him disinforming the public about the 2024 elections went viral on social media.

After his visit to the Ashanti Regional Police command, he was subsequently arrested for publishing false news and will be arraigned to serve as a deterrent to many.

He was arrested for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Speaking to Accra-based OKAY FM, Dr Okyere Ankrah indicated that this issue must not be taken lightly.

He believes that if the radio host is punished for breaching the law, it will serve as a deterrent to many who intend to misinform and disinform the public during the electioneering period.

“The guy is not normal I should say. He was not even consistent with his propaganda. The Electoral Commission is the only body in charge of setting dates for elections so how can you do that on radio. He should not be left of the hook. He must be made to face the laws of the land so he learns his lessons. Disinformation is a canker and can cause major problems so I will urge the Police to ensure he is dealt with,” he said.
